I know it’s way too early in the year to talk about A Bitter Winter 2nd Edition but it seems winter has come early.
This was a personal passion project I took on when I needed to clear my head of horror fiction. 2nd Edition is not a relaunch, or a reboot, or an attempt to boost sales. In fact, it has nothing to do with revenue or profit.
A Bitter Winter 2nd Edition was my chance to tell the best story I could.
A Bitter Winter available on Amazon.
Cindy led me into this delusional path that I could be an author. The least I could do is revisit her origin story and ensure I’ve done everything I could to make it more professional. I love the new fonts for the cover, and I love the more professional Silver Pencil Books logo created by Jackson Alves.
All right let’s hit up the FAQ. I’m assuming this is what you want to know.
- Will there be a physical copy?
A: Yes, a paperback and hardcover. I used up 3 very expensive ISBNs for this, I’m hoping they will be ready in time. Goal is to have them ready for launch day, but might be delayed depending on shipping and me verifying proofs. - I read the original edition; will I miss anything by not reading the update?
A: Plot-wise, no. What changed is hard to describe, but I think the book has a different feel. The emotion is stronger, the action descriptions are more vivid, and I made the dialogue snappier. Cindy’s transformation into her alter ego is much more terrifying, there’s some implied “smex” and the violence in the book is so much more graphic. I enjoyed the changes lol. - Will this be available in other stores, i.e. Barnes & Noble?
A: Yes, the book will be available in multiple stores and I’m also adding Google Play. It will be available to libraries but readers will have to request the book. - Will Narco Hotel receive a 2nd edition?
A: No. I was happy with the end result of Narco Hotel. That being said, I did tweak the ending with a character swap and made some minor editing updates. Nothing worthy of a 2nd edition, though I will, unfortunately, have to update the paperback with the new changes. Update will be free to owners of the Narco Hotel ebook. - What should I do with the original book if I have it?
A: Donate or sell to anyone who wants it. - Can I receive a free Ebook upgrade to the 2nd edition?
A: If you have a proof of purchase, I may be able to send out a free digital copy, but only in storefronts where I can generate coupons or via Bookfunnel. So, most likely not from Amazon specifically. (I will require a sign up to my newsletter, and no physical copies, sorry.) - Are you still planning to release your horror short story?
A: Yes, but it might not be a short story anymore. I chatted with some friends and my editor, and it feels like the story needs to be longer. I’m trying to fit too much in a short amount of space. - When is the second edition coming out?
A: April 30th! You can buy from this link! Amazon only for now. New storefronts coming soon.
Closing thoughts – Although I am a little disappointed that I basically re-released an old book and would have rather preferred promoting a new story. I am very happy with how the 2nd Edition turned out. All the annoying things that bothered me about the initial release have finally been fixed.
But I wanted to add a note for my readers who have emailed me about my books. I felt awful when I publicly expressed my disappointment in the retired version of the “original” The Silver Ninja and how readers who loved the book were heartbroken to hear that I was not happy with it. It was as if I took their favorite toy and smashed it. Not a good feeling.
I wanted to let those readers know, I’m happy the original book found its tribe and that it meant something to you. I don’t want my changes to make them feel as if I’m ignoring them or wiping the slate clean. What I wanted to do was give the story room to breathe. The finale in the first book was way too big and devastating for book one. That portrayal of Cindy also didn’t align with my vision of who I want her to be.
Thank you for your continued and supportive emails. Know that I will always try my best to make story decisions that will best serve Cindy and the characters who surround her. I hope you all enjoy the new version of A Bitter Winter!
